Fito left for Port-Au-Prince yesterday, leaving just me and Hugues. Needless to say, we have a lot of food leftover every day now. Last night we gave it to some of the kids and it was heartbreaking to say the least. I have to say I have never seen hunger like that, compounded by the fact that they do not know when they will get to eat or where their next meal will come from. Yvena came in to eat and the usually rambunctious, fiesty little girl was shy and silent. She came in without a word, ate her plate of food, and left with a quiet "Mesi" (thank you). Hugues said she is always that way when she eats at their house because it is such a huge gift to her so extreme respect is required. Wow. This morning we had a loaf of bread that was getting a little dry so we toasted it with butter and spread peanut butter on it and gave it to the kids on their way to school. One loaf of bread, a little peanut butter, and 12 full, or at least fuller, tummies later it seems too little. What about tomorrow morning? Hugues reminds me we can't feed them all, but I sure wish we could.
Something to pray about...in the VERY early stages, so much so that I probably shouldn't share it yet, but prayer never hurts anything :) This morning Oxel, a good friend of Hugues's, came over and told us that his in-laws had donated some land to an organization several years ago for a medical clinic. So far nothing has been done with the land and they are upset. Oxel was wondering if we might be interested in having the land to build a school in Massey so we can send more children to school with less cost. WOW! Oxel has not talked to his in-laws yet but we told him we might be interested, not right away, but in the future. Building a school is something we thought we could maybe do in several years, but having land given to us would be huge. Obviously, right now we do not even have an official organization, but once we do this could be huge. Please pray that if this land is meant to be for a Massey school in the future that it would be unmistakeable and that God would provide the means for everything to fall into place.
We are headed off to the beach today, as soon as Jovan wakes up. It is a very hot day so we are excited about that!
