Reality

We have been blessed. The reality of the earthquake in Haiti has not hit home for us. Not really. Our family is okay. Those who have been displaced have found a home elsewhere. They have food, they have shelter. While we mourn for Haiti, we haven't really felt the loss fully. Today was a beginning of reality for us.

Many of you will remember the story about Loveson. This little boy was born in February 2009 on Hugues and Fito's front porch, with Hugues "assisting" by handing supplies out the window as they were requested. When we traveled to Haiti in March 2009, we were blessed to meet him and help his mother, Sonia, get him to the hospital as he was running a high fever. His parents asked Hugues to be his Godfather, to which he accepted. On Sunday someone stopped by Hugues' brother's house and told Fito that Loveson had passed away. We do not know how or why. We don't know why this sweet baby who was so healthy the last time Hugues saw him is no longer with us. We don't believe it was earthquake related. We are grieving and don't know how to process this reality. This is reality in Haiti. This is a reality for so many mothers, so many families, and we grieve not only for Sonia but for so many other mothers who are suffering with empty arms tonight.

We know that sweet Loveson is being rocked in Jesus' arms. While we mourn, we also rejoice that in Him there is hope and for Loveson there is no more pain, no more suffering. Nou renmen ou, precious Loveson :)
