Let’s start from the beginning of today’s adventure...We arrived at the Embassy this morning at 7am. There was a line around the building of people waiting to get in. The guard at the front saw us and waved us to the front of the line. Once in, we submitted the requested documents to a representative at the window and sat down to wait for the interview. Interviews took place across a glass window and there was just a line of windows, similar to how it is at the social security office or at some banks. They were in the same room as the waiting area, so we could hear everyone’s interview. At about 9:45am, they called out “Severe” over the intercom that didn’t work very well. We walked to the window and the lady immediately asked me to sit back down as she needed to talk to Hugues alone. This was NOT a good sign as the worst thing at an interview is if they separate you. I was near panic, as was Hugues. Turns out there was a mix-up and the officer had called for someone else with the last name “Severe”, but Hugues did get to answer a few of the other Severe’s questions! Whew! The same official called us up at about 10:30am. She asked a few basic questions like what our anniversary was, how we met, and if we had been apart the whole time or if we had been living in Haiti. Then she stapled a visa ticket to a copy of Hugues’ passport and said, “Okay, you’re all set!” We walked away wondering if that meant we got the visa...but the ticket said “Immigrant Visa”...which translates to WE ARE APPROVED!!!
What it means is that Hugues can pick up his passport and visa on October 3 and then COME HOME!!! “You’re all set” means “You can go home!”
Thank you to all of you who I know have been praying so diligently for us this entire time, and especially today as we were at the Embassy. We were nervous, but at the same time felt peace that everything was okay. We were able to answer the questions with a clear mind and were blessed to have an officer who seemed to sympathize with us and our story. Thank you so much!
Jovan and I will probably travel home this weekend or Monday then Hugues will follow on the 4th of October as there is a huge government convention starting on the 30th and thus not a single hotel room available in the area after Wednesday. Not sure what our plans are for sure, but we are just thankful that this journey is at its end and we can’t wait to all come home and start our life together again. Again, thank you to all of you and Hugues says he can’t wait to see everyone :)
