Grain d'Espoir pour Haiti

It is official! We got our approval from the State of Florida for our organization in Massey, Haiti. The official name is Grain d'Espoir pour Haiti. We are still working on obtaining our tax-exempt status, but hopefully that can be done quickly and we can be up and running. Thank you to all of you who have supported this organization so far, both financially and prayerfully. We are so grateful!

We are tentatively planning a small (or hopefully BIG) fundraiser for sometime towards the end of July. We will post more details later and send out invites, but are waiting in HOPES that Hugues can be home for this. We will see... It won't be anything fancy, but a get-together with a short presentation on what we are doing and why we are doing it. We hope you can come and join us :)

Also working on a website...will post those details when it is complete.

On another note, Haiti has been getting all this rain that we have been getting in Florida, plus some. The streets of Les Cayes and Massey are completely flooded and many people's homes are caving in due to the weight of the water and force of the winds. So many of these homes were weakened by the hurricanes last summer and Hugues said they have gotten more rain the past week than they did even during those hurricanes. Needless to say, things are in quite a mess down there. Yesterday, Hugues went down into Massey to help "fix" the roads some as an older woman had passed away (not due to the flooding) and friends and family were needing to reach her house to make preparations for the funeral. I don't know how the "fixing" was done, but Hugues said they made a way for a few cars to get by. Today he was helping again with fixing some homes. From his last report, Hugues heard that 23 people have died in Les Cayes due to the floods, most from drowning when the water filled their homes in the night. Please pray that the rain STOPS and the floods dry up quickly. A few inconvenient, rainy days by US standards are disastrous in Haiti.
